I hadn’t actually heard of Man-thing until last night. When his background was explained to me, I immediately thought Marvel had attempted their own Swamp Thing character. Turns out Man-thing’s origin was the first nature-infused, tragic hero of the two.
This also gave me a reason to draw an egret.

Impossible to overstate the influence of the artwork on these cards on my young mind. My deck was bought for me by my grandmother in 1981 at a hospital gift shop on the day my brother was born; I played with it until it was ragged.
